BRIEF INTRODUCTION

ISSUES about Over Tourism are increasingly becoming common world over. Many factors have been listed by scholars but most importantly they rotate around how the host communities perceive the increasing number of tourism with its induced negative effects. And this generally calls for a better approach to change the perspective through which the host communities see tourism. This can best be done by the tourism industry its self through its key stake holder like Tour operators, therefore an idea of corporate social responsibility strategy to enable tourism be appreciated by the host communities.

IN THE WORLD where environment conservation can best be done by involving the community, there is no way we can achieve sustainable environmental conservation without fully participating in community awareness programmes. At Apogee Safaris Ltd (ASL], we believe that responsible tourism goes beyond showcasing the beauty of East Africa. It also means giving back to the communities that make these experiences possible. Through our esteemed non-profit arm, Arctic Institute Ltd by Guarantee, we have committed ourselves to impactful Corporate Social Responsibility.

OUR CORPORATE SOCIAL REPONSIBILITY

Our company policy is to give back part of our proceeds to the communities surrounding tourism sites through activities which include but not limited to; environment protection and conservation activities, training in hospitality , community empowerment, women empowerment, Gheto Youths Uplifting Activities (GYUA] imparting/ training local community members with lifelong hard/Vocational skills in pastry and bakery, weaving, tour guiding, extension agriculture, cooking, supporting local schools with learning materials, sponsoring bright but underprivileged children, contributing to health initiatives such as clean water, waste management and sanitation programs.

HOW DO WE GIVE BACK TO THE ENVIRONMENT

A portion of the proceeds from every safari booked is directly reinvested into community development projects. We also work closely with women’s groups and youth organizations to provide skills training and small business support, empowering them to become self-reliant. Furthermore, we plan to focus part of our contribution on environmental conservation by funding tree planting drives and wildlife protection programs. This will not only sustain the natural heritage our guests come to explore but also create jobs and awareness within the communities. We also do well come any direct community contribution from our clients.

At ASL, one of our main agendas is not to maximize the profits but to sustainably conserve the environment with the little proceeds. Through our CSR programmes we target a WIN-WIN scenarios with the environment and this is done through involving the communities in most of our conservation programmes.
