Park Brief

Echuya Central Forest Reserve although not yet opened as a national park, it's a wonderful tourism site located in one of Uganda’s most hilly regions. It's located in southwestern Uganda in Kisoro and Rubanda districts. The forest lies between 1°14' - 1°21' S and 29°47' -29°52'E and covers an area of 34 km, and has an altitude range of 2,270 – 2,570 m. The forest lies at the heart of the biodiversity rich Albertine rift eco-region and is a site of global biodiversity importance. Echuya is particularly known for its high-quality bamboo, Yushania alpina and the unique bird species. Over the years, part of the forest has been colonized by broadleaved tree species replacing the once extensive bamboo vegetation. Management of the Echuya central forest reserve (CFR) is vested in the National Forestry Authority (NFA).

Some of the species that make it's mammal list include but not limited to; Elusive cats (African Golden Cat), Blue Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys among other forested animals. It has unique birds such as the endangered swamp warbler, Rwenzori turaco, Blue headed sun bird, Kivu ground thrush, Archers robin chats among other.

Memorable Activities; Its rich biodiversity provide a basis for many interesting  tourism activities which include but not limited to; bird watching, excellent Batwa community experience, Muchuya swamp walk, bamboo forest walk among others.

Accessibility: To do all these activities, we help you to reach the park using either road or air.

Accommodation: There a number of lodges from budget to high-End within a radius of 50 km.

Easiest way to explore this park (3/2 days). It’s even possible for visitors sleeping in Entebbe/Kampala (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda) to drive to the nearby accommodation on the first day and do any activity the following day.
