Park Brief
This is Uganda’s smallest national park (33.7km2) gazetted in1991. Mgahinga has one habituated trans-boundary gorilla group which sometimes crosses to Rwanda. Also, while in this park at Sabinyo peak, you're able to reach its three conical, extinct volcanoes, a point where the three Virunga Conservation Countries meet (Uganda, Rwanda& DR.Congo.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is engulfed in the clouds, at an altitude of between 2,227m and 4,127m. It’s also habitat for the endangered golden monkey. For Ethno-ecologists, the park has a huge cultural significance with a in particular attachment to the indigenous Batwa pygmies. The park forms the larges part of the Virunga conservation area with slopes containing various ecosystems which provides a very striking scenery.
In addition to Mt. Gorillas, Mgahinga has over 76 mammals which including elephants, giant forest hog, bush pigs,bush back. Buffalos, cats, like leopards, over 180 bird species of which 14 species are endemic Albertine rift notably, the Kivu ground thrush and Turaco.
Memorable Activities: The most memorable activities in this park include but not limited to: Gorilla tracking, Gorilla habituation experience, forest nature walk, birding, butterfly tourism, the Batwa community visit and Research based tourism on botany,zoology archeology Sabinyo and Muhavura Hikes.
Accessibility: To do all these activities, we help you to reach the park using either road or air.
Accommodation: There a number of lodges from budget to high-End within a radius of 50 km.
Easiest way to explore this park (3/2 days). It’s even possible for visitors sleeping in Entebbe/Kampala (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda) to drive to the nearby accommodation on the first day and do any activity the following day.
