Park Briefs

Kidepo Valley National Park was gazetted as a national park in 1962, is the current third largest Uganda’s National park situated in the rugged, semi-arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with south Sudan in the north west and only 5km from the eastern border of Kenya. Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park due to less regional development and remoteness of cultures around, and ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. The park contains two rivers – Kidepo and Narus – which disappear in the dry season.   The surrounding local communities include pastoral Karamojong people, similar to the Maasai of Kenya, and the IKs, It’s characterized with a savannah landscape which extends far beyond the gazetted area. This prime game viewing location, especially with its dense populations of Lion, Buffalos, Elephant, Rothschild Giraffes and many similar angulates. Makes kidepo N.P a must visit while in Uganda.  Kidepo hosts over 77 mammal species, 476 bird species and many more colorful and visible species.

Memorable Activities: The most memorable activities in this park include but not limited to: rich game drives, Birding, endemic bird species like the karamoja Apalis, rich nature walks, wild camping, the still less diluted Karamojong cultural experience, visit the East Africa largest Community Village in Kotido, you can organise a sleep over around Kotido or Moroto and then hike for the IK’s (one of the most remote cultures in the world). Also when using the remote route, it’s easier to visit Sipi falls enroute.
